  • Gillian was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, although life and work has taken her across the region.
  • Passionate about people in general and education in particular, Gillian originally trained as a teacher. She has continued to work in this sector, moving from the traditional classroom into universities, community education initiatives, and the NGO space.
  • An ardent believer in opening access to educational and development opportunities, particularly in rural areas, Gillian founded the Malealea Development Trust, an NGO that promotes a range of education, socio-economic and environment programmes for people in rural Lesotho.
  • Gillian joined the staff of Canon Collins Trust in 2011, and is using the opportunity to continue her commitment to enabling access to education, and strengthening a community of change agents across the region.
