  • Emma is from Eastern Zambia and is the seventh born in a family of eight children.
  • She was awarded a Canon Collins scholarship to study for her PhD in Anthropology at Rhodes University, graduating in 2015.
  • Her greatest challenge has been balancing school and family responsibilities. Emma’s long-term doctoral studies required her to spend a lot of time away from home collecting relevant data and thesis writing, and away from her young daughter.
  • Despite the challenges of her doctoral studies, Emma was determined to succeed and become a great role model for her daughter and all other young girls within her community and elsewhere. 
Greatest achievement: 

Starting and successfully completing her doctorate degree - a dream come true.

Professional interests: 

Social development research; mentorship for girls in poor families.
