This month we have been celebrating our supporters who battled the heat to complete the 2018 London Marathon, raising an impressive £10,000 in the process. On the Wednesday prior to the Marathon, we held a 'meet and greet' event where several of our runners met with London based Canon Collins scholars and gained some insight into how their fundraising supports such talented individuals to pursue their academic and career ambitions.
Our partners, the Legal Resources Centre and Equal Education, also faced landmark judgements in April. Despite significant challenges, both the LRC and EE demonstrated once again their strength and capacity to bring about social change in South Africa.
April will also be remembered as the month of Winnie Mandela's death, and several of our scholars have been discussing what her life meant to them as they look forward to their own activism and social change projects in southern Africa.
In this same spirit, we have been inviting scholars and alumni to vote for their favourite scholar for theImpact Award (deadline 18th May) and for scholars and alumni to apply for the Change Maker Award, a R30,000 award presented to an alumni social change project (deadline 7th May). Both awards will be presented at our Annual Scholars' Conference 1st - 3rd June, for which planning is well underway. We look forward to revealing our keynote speakers soon, but in the meantime, we wanted to remind you why the conference is such a highlight in the Canon Collins calendar.
Thank you for your ongoing interest and support,
Learning, Knowledge and Communications Executive
